Berries: Jujube

The fruit that is mentioned in the three inspired books Torah, Injeel and Quran, its nutrition is also mentioned in the traditions and it is said that Adam, peace be upon him, when he landed on earth, the first thing he ate was the fruit of the berry.

It can be read as Jujube or Jujube in English.  The tall plum first originated in the Chinese region while the round one grew in the Hindu-Pak region.  Now it has spread almost all over the world and its biggest producing country is China followed by India.

Generally, three species are known in Pakistan, namely: Zhizipus jujuba, Pachindi Bir (black plum),

   Zhizipus Mauritiana,

 and wild berries (coccinea).

Included.  The long-stemmed plum is called the apple of the poor, because in its raw state it looks crunchy when eaten like an apple, but its nutrition is even higher than that of an apple.  Like guava, it is also a fruit that can grow and bear fruit best in Pakistani soil, especially in dry, low-water areas.  It can survive in areas with an average annual rainfall of eight inches.  Cattle eat its shoots and leaves with great enthusiasm, so if a berry tree grows where the cattle are grazing, then when its long branches are cut, they will also get fodder for free.  And you fruit too.

The nutrition of these three species is almost the same, only slightly sweeter, watery differences.  Plums are one of the most neglected fruits here, but in both China and India, they are among the top fruits that are widely consumed.  There are about forty species of it naturally, but by the wonders of the laboratory, about seven hundred varieties have been made, of which only a few are edible.
